Stephen Texon
Rabbi Cantor Stephen Texon of the Cuban Hebrew Congregation of Miami Beach was born and raised in New York City, and is a graduate of the Ramaz Yeshiva, New York University, and the International Opera Center in Geneva, Switzerland. Legendary Jewish composer and conductor Sholom Secunda chose the young Cantor Texon as the Baritone Soloist in his famous High Holiday Choir at the Concord Resort Hotel in the Catskill Mountains, New York.
After serving as Cantor of the Hewlett East Rockaway JC in New York he had the distinction of having served the Aventura Turnberry JC and B’nai Torah Cong. of Boca Raton as First Cantor, and is a long standing member of the Cantors Assembly of America.
Rabbi Texon received his Rabbinic Ordination from the Rabbinical Academy Mesifta Walkowitz Woodmeer NY in 2014, and most recently in Feb. 2022 was given an Honorary Doctorate in Music from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City.
Rabbi Texon has also sung in the Opera world and studied at the Metropolitan Opera with Conductor Kurt Adler and stage director Herbert Graf who invited him to the Geneva Grand Opera in Switzerland where to sing supporting roles. In the US, Rabbi Texon sang in full productions with the New Jersey State Opera along side luminaries Richard Tucker, Robert Merrill, Placido Domingo, Tito Gobbi, and Jerome Hines. He understudied for the great Baritone Robert Merrill in Verdi’s La Traviata and and Ballo in Maschera and sang a dress rehearsal. The Rabbi also performed the role of Tonio in Pagliacci with the New York City Opera Education Department touring company.
